Living: 5 Reasons to Visit the Yorkshire Coast this Summer
Yes yes yes, we’re obviously biased but here are our top 5 reasons to visit the Yorkshire Coast and Wolds for a staycation this summer.
#1 – The Beach!
Filey Bay is a gorgeous stretch of sand, reaching for miles from Filey Brigg to the north and Flamborough Head to the south. History, swimming, ice cream, fish and chips, long walks and fossils – there’s something for everyone! And when the tide goes out it leaves huge pools, perfect for paddling. For a buzzier vibe, head to Scarborough, Bridlington or Whitby too.
#2 – The Food!
There’s more to the coast than Fish and Chips but it’s a good place to start, as they say. There are tons of great coffee shops and cafes, hidden all around the Wolds. Into the evening, try Embers in Scarborough, or for something special, The Pipe and Glass at South Dalton is delicious. As well, of course, as the Pot Still Coffee Shop here at the distillery itself.
#3 – The (lack of) Crowds!
Our bit of the Yorkshire Wolds and coast is a hidden gem. Off the beaten track, you can discover empty dales and endless footpaths. Follow the Centenary Way to Filey and you’ll even pass through our farm.
#4 – The Beer!
When the Mellors first founded Wold Top Brewery in 2003, there were only handful of breweries in Yorkshire. Now the beer scene here is superbly strong, led of course by Wold Top. On a sunny day, it’s hard to beat a cold pint of Landmark Lager, enjoyed with a view.
#5 – The Whisky!
Well… we weren’t going to miss this out were we. It’s 10 years since we first began distilling here in Yorkshire and we’re in a celebratory mood. There are all sorts of events happening at the distillery this year, and some very special releases too. The Distillery Open Weekend takes places on Yorkshire Day weekend but if you can’t make it for then, we run tours every day of the week, and we’re sure you’ll find Filey Bay Single Malt Whisky locally to enjoy too.
Being serious though, this is a fantastic place for a UK staycation. There are tons of wonderful accommodation options, from holiday cottages to campsites and everything in between. The Pot Still Coffee Shop is open 7 days a week for breakfasts, lunches, homemade cakes and really good coffee. Distillery tours take place every day.
