Filey Bay Flagship Marrying Strength

Our Flagship whisky, but with the dial turned up. Bottled at ‘marrying strength’, this is like seeing our Flagship live on stage and you’re standing in the front row.

Single Estate, from field to bottle. With 100% homegrown regeneratively farmed barley, our Single Malt Whisky isn’t just made in Yorkshire, it’s Made of Yorkshire.

Filey Bay Flagship Marrying Strength - Whisky Director Joe Clark

What is marrying strength?

What is marrying strength?  Its a term we use behind the scenes all the time at our distillery, but perhaps not a term most whisky-loving folk would know. Sitting between cask strength (usually 57-60% straight from the cask) and bottling strength (usually 45-48% for us), we have marrying strength.

Before bottling and final reduction of our classic Flagship to its bottling strength at 46%, it spends long periods of time at what we affectionately know as marrying strength, allowing the whisky to harmonise, a gentle and controlled slow reduction as we take it down from cask strength to bottling strength.

  • STORY BEHIND

    The Name

Our local area is hugely important to us and so naturally it’s where we’ve found the name for our Single Malt: Filey Bay. We see the sea and the curve of the bay from the distillery window. We had lists of names but we just kept coming back to this.

    Our

    Bottle

Our bespoke bottle brings together the textures of the farm, the soil, the beach and the sky. Pick it up, look closely underneath and you'll see a secret phrase... "Proudly Made of Yorkshire." Because it is.
